With a break last weekend, the UFC and Bellator have a number of exciting cards coming up in the month of June. Going in order of dates, here’s a look at some of the best fights you won’t want to miss.
Douglas Lima (c) vs. Yarslav Amosov – Bellator 260: June 11
— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) April 16, 2021
Bellator welterweight champion Lima makes his first title defense since beating Rory MacDonald back in Oct. 2019 when he faces undefeated Ukrainian Amosov. Lima (32-8) coming off a loss against middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi last October and will look to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time since June 2009. Amosov (25-0) has kept his unblemished record intact since joining Bellator in 2018, most recently defeating Logan Storley back in November. This might be the best welterweight fight you’ll see all year outside of the UFC.
Deiveson Figueiredo (c) vs. Brandon Moreono II – UFC 263: June 12
UFC free fight: Deiveson Figueiredo, Brandon Moreno collide in an all-out classic war https://t.co/QPQ15qfg8U
— MMA Junkie (@MMAjunkie) May 30, 2021
These two had a ‘Fight of the Year’ performance last time at UFC 258, will we see a repeat on June 12? Despite one loss in the octagon, flyweight champion Figueiredo (20-1-1) has looked seemly unstoppable in the weight class, boasting finishes in four of his last five fights. However, Moreno (18-5-2) won’t make it easy, with the 27-year-old challenger being one of the most durable fighters in the division having never been stopped during his UFC tenure. Expect another war between these two exciting 125-pound standouts.
Israel Adesanya (c) vs. Marvin Vettori II – UFC 263: June 12
— MMA mania (@mmamania) May 28, 2021
UFC middleweight champion Adesanya (20-1) remains undefeated in the weight class but is coming off his first loss at the hands of 205-pound champion Jan Błachowicz at UFC 259. While “The Last Stylebender” holds a 2018 victory over his opponent Vettori (17-3-1), it’s the Italian who has all the momentum heading into this contest on a five-fight win streak.
Chan Sung Jung “The Korean Zombie” vs. Dan Ige – UFC Vegas 29: June 19
Per sources, Korean Zombie (@KoreanZombieMMA) vs. Dan Ige (@Dynamitedan808) will headline a UFC Fight Night on June 19. A fight Ige has been calling for. Zombie in title contention, looking to bounce back from loss to Ortega. Two hard hitters at 145. https://t.co/l7ThqICUOf
— Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) April 3, 2021
Zombie (16-6) looks to bounce back from his lopsided loss against Brian Ortega at UFC Fight Night in October and has gone 2-2 in his last four fights. Ige (15-3) is coming off the most impressive win of his career, finishing Canadian Gavin Tucker in just 22-seconds at UFC Fight Night in March. An impressive win for either fighter will situate them at the top of the featherweight division.
Ciryl Gane vs. Alexander Volkov – UFC Vegas 30: June 26
— MaRCeL DoRFF 🇳🇱🇮🇩 (@BigMarcel24) April 3, 2021
Despite having just eight fights on his resume, undefeated Gane (8-0) could find himself with a title shot should he defeat Russian standout Volkov (33-8) on June 26. The French fighter is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Jairzinho Rozenstruik, which pushed his Octagon winning streak to five straight. Volkov has won back-to-back fights by knockout over Walt Harris and former title challenger Alistair Overeem. “Drago” has only been finished once during his UFC career and that was a last-second knockout loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC 229. Can Gane do the same? We’ll find out on June 26.
