The co-main and main event of UFC 257 were as entertaining as anyone could have hoped for. Michael Chandler made his presence in the promotion known with a knockout victory of Dan Hooker that may have been the best debut in UFC history. Everything aligned for the former Bellator champ, having the form of someone who looked unbeatable on that particular night. The Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier fight couldn’t have been any more thrilling, with a high paced striking battle that saw McGregor pull ahead in the scorecards in the first round, only to get dramatically knocked out just a couple of minutes later. For a card that was thin on paper, the two fights at the top of the bill made for an entertaining and historical night on Fight Island.
The lightweight division has always been the most talent rich weight class in the sport, as well as the most interesting in general for many years now. But with all indications being that current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov wont be returning to competition, things are going to soon be altered in a big way with the current crop of contenders circling for a title shot. With Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje, and Michael Chandler on deck, things are looking good at 155.

Closing Remarks
There is nothing wrong with the fact that Ben Askren and Jake Paul are set to have a boxing match, it’s the fact that the headlines are going to occupy the MMA space until the bout is over that’s unfortunate about the whole thing. Given it’s not set to take place until mid-April, everyone can settle into this thing being promoted into exhaustion until it’s behind us. Hopeful once this fight is over, it can give way to the MMA Headlines being occupied by the best mixed martial arts on the planet.
